I liked reading and reviewing your research about BYOD. Your research plan included using several schools and using schools from different social economics areas. I am sure the data will show that BYOD plans need reviewing and corrected in many areas to be successful. This is the first year our county has had BYOD. The problem with this plan is most students do not have a device to bring to use in class other than a phone. As a teacher, the phone can be a distraction to students. There are assignments they use their phones on but they don’t understand they cannot be using them when they want to in class. I have 105 students this semester and 17 of those students do not have a computer, internet or phone they can use as technology. That is 17% of a population. This is a high number of students labeled 21st century learners, digital advanced and even tech savvy kids. I believe people under estimate the true number of students that have a device that can be used at school for a BYOD plan.

    Thanks Beverly

  2. Tai,
I gained knowledge from reading your team's literature review. I have been researching how our school could implement BYOD at the high school level, and your literature review has given me knowledge in areas I have not researched or considered. My main focus has been on broadband. I believe that technology in the classroom is a controversial issue that must be addressed by those implementing it or choosing not to implement it. Whether it is BYOD or Game Based Learning, someone will always question its place in the classroom. I have enjoyed working with you and pray God will bless you as you pursue that which He has called you to. God Bless!

  3. Tai,
I agree with the ladies that BYOD is a worthy research project that needs more studies. My main concern is what happens when there is an assignment given for homework and the student has internet like mine - it works when it wants to! I am serious my internet has major issues like speed on downloading. Even though I live in the country in the city - it is more COUNTRY :) As Beverly mentioned, what happens to students who have parents that do not have the internet due to it being low on the totem pole? Is the district going to flip the expense? There are many unanswered questions to implementing BYOD. Surveys to see where each student is on home technology would be the first question I would ask. Second, how are we going to assist with BYOD when the parents cannot afford to purchase any devices?
    Blessings from above,
    Terry
